“Responding to the Call”

A Message from Dr. Michael S. Wahl,

Managing Medical Director of the IPC

In a matter of minutes a poisoning can become a life and death situation. According to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, poisoning is the second-leading cause of injury-related deaths in the United States behind automobile accidents. For children ages 18-36 months, poisoning is the No. 1 cause of hospitalization and death.

Having access to a fully funded poison center is not an option; it’s a necessity for residents of Illinois. The availability of a reassuring, trusted voice and reliable medical advice is essential to ensuring a safe outcome. The experienced staff of the Illinois Poison Center (IPC) is critical to reducing the incidence and injury of poisonings by providing the highest level of expert service to our state.

Your gift will help us to continue to provide this critical service and educate Illinois residents on how to create safe, healthy, poison-free home and work environments.

The IPC appreciates your interest in learning more about poison prevention and the IPC’s toll-free hotline services (1-800-222-1222).
